To manually browse to a QuickBooks company file, follow these steps:
1. Launch QuickBooks and get to the "No Company Open" or "Welcome to QuickBooks Desktop" window (if you see the "Let's set up your business" window, close it).
2. Choose Open an existing company file> Open a company file> Next.
3. This will open up a browser window that's looking for a .QBW file. At the top where it says "Look in:" click the dropdown arrow and choose "SummitHosting (C:)" or "Shared Data (S:)" whichever holds your QuickBooks Company file(s).
4. Browse to wherever your company file (.qbw file) resides. The default locations are:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files
S:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files
C:\Clients
S:\Clients
A QuickBooks company file (.qbw) will be the only file where the icon has a lime-greenish tint to it. If you are still unable to figure out which file to open, use the "Date modified" and "Type" columns to help decipher which is the QuickBooks Company File:
