How To Upgrade Your Sage 50 Company File To A New Version

Solution I: If the old version of Sage is available

1. Open the Sage Company file in the current version and note the complete file location. 
   
   • The file path is usually located in the Shared Drive or D:\Shares\ClientApps\*Name of Sage data folder*
2. Create a backup
   • Click File
   • Click Backup
   • Complete a local backup of your Sage 50 Company file 
   • Save the backup to the Shared drive. 
3. Open the new version of Sage in the My Applications folder.
4. Click Open An Existing Company
5. Click Browse on the right side of the window
6. Click Browse at the top of the window 
7. Navigate to the complete file path noted in step 1 and open the Sage 50 Company File.
   • Note – Only the Sage admin user can convert the Sage 50 Company File to the newer version. 
8. Follow the Conversion Wizard prompts until it finishes. 
9. Log into your Sage 50 Company File as the Sage 50 Admin. 
10. Your file is now in the current version. 

Solution II: If the old version of Sage is no longer available

1. Open the new version of Sage in the My Applications folder.
2. Click Open An Existing Company
3. Click Browse on the right side of the window
4. Click Browse at the top of the window 
5. Navigate to the complete file path for the Sage 50 Company File and open it.
   • Note – Only the Sage admin user can convert the Sage 50 Company File to the newer version. 
6. Follow the Conversion Wizard prompts until it finishes.
   • Note- You will be required to make a backup during this process 
7. Log into your Sage 50 Company File as the Sage 50 Admin. 
8. Your file is now in the current version. 

Section III: How to access the Sage 50 Company File after conversion

1. Open the new version of Sage in the My Applications folder.
2. Click Open An Existing Company
3. Click Browse on the right side of the window
4. Click Browse at the top of the window 
5. Navigate to the complete file path for the Sage 50 Company File and open it.
6. Log into your Sage 50 Company File

Note: After completing this process once the Company File will show after clicking Open An Existing Company from the main window of Sage 50
