How to get rid of a QuickBooks critical update message when opening the QuickBooks application?
Solution I:
1. Open the QuickBooks application as an Administrator
2. Go to Help
3. Go to Update QuickBooks
4. Go to the Options tab – click on No for Automatic Updates
5. Go to Updates Now tab and find the Maintenance Release updates and uncheck this option.
6. Check the box to Reset Update

6. Check the box to Reset Update
7. Click Get updates
8. Close the QuickBooks application and open it again.

11. Check the box for Maintenance Releases again,

13. Close QuickBooks application and open again.
***If you still see the message, follow this next:***
1. Open Task Manager, restart all QuickBooks related services
2. Right-click on Quickbooks then select Run as Administrator
3. The message should go away, restart Quickbooks a few times to confirm.
Solution II:
Delete the folders inside the downloads folder following this path:
C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks 20xx\Components\DownloadQBxx
