Process Description:
This is the guide that goes over the process of how to upgrade to Act version 25 if you currently have any ACT version below version 25 installed
Requirements to Complete this Process:
- Ensure that your computer meets the system requirements. For information regarding the system requirements for Act! v25, go to https://help.act.com/s/article/What-are-the-system-requirements-for-Act-v25-prem?language=en_US
- Administrator Rights
- Act recommends creating a backup of your current database prior to the upgrade. See the backup portion of this article: https://help.act.com/s/article/How-to-backup-and-restore-an-Act-database-prem?language=en_US.
Steps and Screenshots:
I. Check/verify a few items:

- Do you have security on your machine?
- Note: Some firewalls may block you from downloading the software. It may be necessary to temporarily disable your firewall in order to complete the download. For assistance with disabling your firewall, consult your firewall developer’s documentation or contact an IT professional.
- Ensure that you are logged into the computer with an account equipped with Administrator Rights
- Right-click on the Windows start menu and select Run
- Type in appwiz.cpl this will navigate to Programs and Features within Control Panel
- Find, Right-click on, and Uninstall any existing installations of ACT! that are prior to v25. Check the "version" column to confirm
- When that is completed, pull up File Explorer and rename the following ACT folders by adding a .old at the end (if present)
- C:\Program Files (x86)\ACT
- C:\Program Files\ACT
- C:\Program Data\ACT
Example:
- Reboot the computer when completed.
- Log back into the computer and download Act version 25 Windows client: https://www.act.com/download/download-act-v25/
- Right-click on the .exe file you downloaded and select Run as Administrator
- You will then be prompted with the following installation setup. Select Install Act!
*If the installation prompt does not appear, navigate to C:\act!_2502x51\Setup.exe and run as admin - If it prompts to reboot, proceed, then installation will pick back up when you log back into your machine
- When prompted, select the appropriate country in the Regional Version screen, then click Next
- Read and Accept the License agreement
- Choose the Typical installation type
- Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the installation process
- When the Act! Install Complete dialog appears, Check the desired options, then click Finish.
- Open ACT!
- It will most likely ask you to reactivate or re-regsiter your ACT. Enter in all applicable information and click next throughout the prompts.
- If you do not have your ACT serial on hand, please reach out to our Customer Care team for assistance.
- After ACT is registered, navigate and open your ACT database.
- When prompted to back up the database, click Yes (if you haven’t already backed up the database), or click No
Note: If you clicked No, skip to step 22
- Ensure that the database backup will be saved to the desired location, then click OK
- When the notification that the backup has been completed successfully appears, click OK
- When the prompt to update the database appears, click OK to begin the upgrade process.
Note: A typical update can take, on average, between 5 - 15 minutes
- When the update is complete, click OK on the confirmation that appears
- Repeat the above steps to convert any additional databases to the new format
- Enjoy Act Version 25!
