How to install ACT!
Process Description:
This knowledge-based article will display the steps for how to install ACT.
Requirements to Complete this Process:
- You must be logged in as a local admin on the machine where ACT! is going to be installed
- all local antivirus and security would need to be paused/temporarily switched off to mitigate any installation issues

V. Installing ACT!
- First, determine what version of ACT you use and download using one of the following links accordingly:
- ACT! Premium version 24
- ACT! Pro version 24
- ACT! Premium version 23

- Note - if you do not see your version listed, it may be considered legacy and not supported.
- Navigate to your downloads folder, right click on the downloaded ACT! file and select "Run as Administrator". It will extract a folder that looks like "act!_v[xx]_sp[xxxxx]"
- A setup window should appear. If not navigate to the ACT folder created on your C-drive, and right click on "Setup.exe">run as administrator
- Select your Region Version.
- Click Next
- Click Accept for the License Agreement.
- Select Typical install.
- From there ACT! will begin and complete it's Install process usually within 25 minutes. It first deploys SQL and then ACT! itself. If everything installs correctly. You’ll get the following screen
- Click Finish.
VI. Registering ACT!
- Right-click on the desktop icon Run as Administrator to run ACT! As an Administrator
- Once ACT! opens, you will see the following screen. Click Activate Now and proceed to the next steps.
- Select Activate your license online and click Next.
- Fill out the information as per the primary contact for the company in the ACT! Database and click Next.
The country field will look grayed out but you still need to go into the drop-down and select one. - Enter the serial number/ license for the ACT! software. If you're unsure what your serial number is, please submit a ticket request
- Input the Serial number and click Next
VII. Restoring RDB file
- Open the link provided provided to you by Summit to download your RDB file (remote database)
- Make sure ACT! is closed
- Open File Explorer.
- Navigate to the Downloads folder
- Locate the RDB file.
- Double-click on the RDB File which will automatically open it and begin the restore process.
- If one is not created, please create a folder right on the C drive called ACT! Data and restore it there. This makes finding the database later much easier.
- Once the RDB restores completely you will receive the following message
- Click Yes to remove the file as they are one-time use only.
- Open the database and login with user credentials.
- You can confirm you’re in the right one by looking at the top of the Login box which shows the Database name.

VIII. Configuring ACT! Sync
- ACT! can be configured 1 of 2 ways
- Using Set Sync Schedule in Synchronization Panel (only works while ACT! is open)
- Using ACT! Scheduler found in the ACT! Folder in the Start menu. This method works whether ACT! is open or closed
- Set Sync Schedule
- After ACT! opens go to Tools
- Click Synchronize Database
- Click Synchronization Panel
- In the Synchronization Panel selects Set Sync Schedule from the left.
- Configure per the customer’s request.
IX. ACT! Scheduler

- From the Start menu either search for ACT! Scheduler or look for the ACT! Folder and open it from there.
- Once launched it should look like this:
- Click on Create a task under Schedule Tasks on the left navigation panel.
- Browse to the ACT! Data folder on the C: drive
- Select the ACT! .pad file.
- Login with the end user’s credentials.
- Select the task you would like to perform.
- Please note that in addition to being able to schedule ACT! to Sync. ACT! a scheduler can also be used to configure a local backup of the ACT! Remote Database if needed.
- Select Database synchronization (remote database only) and click Next.
- Configure the schedule per the client’s request.
- From the Start menu either search for ACT! Scheduler or look for the ACT! Folder and open it from there.
